Today’s Scripture is John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

A very interesting point is that John does not say,

“In the beginning was Jesus.” Instead, he says, “In the beginning was the Word.”

(*Why John? John has something to say about the relationship between Jesus and the Word)

This also reminds us of how God created the heavens and the earth - through his word.

In Genesis chapter 1, we see the phrase “God said…” repeated again and again.

Each time, it is followed by words like “and it was so” or “there was…”. This shows us that God created everything by speaking his Word. 

When God said something, there was life. And all the creatures hear and obey. 

God’s word is living and powerful. 

John explains that that Word is the Son of God - Jesus Christ.

Wow! Then, when God created everything on the heavens and the earth, Jesus was there, and also as the Word of God he worked.

Let’s try reading John 1:1 this way. Instead of saying “the Word,” let’s say “Jesus.”

In the beginning, God spoke, and life came into being. The Word, who was with God and who was God, is Jesus.

This Word did not remain distant or only written on a page. He became flesh and came to live among us.

Let us embrace Jesus as we go on a journey with the Apostle John this week. 

Let us hear the living and powerful word from Jesus and through him, we hope to come to know who God truly is.
