Jesus compares himself to a grain of wheat that falls into the ground and dies.

In the same way, Jesus came down from heaven to earth and became a human like us.

He died for our sins. Because of what Jesus has done, many people have received new life and have been saved.

That is the gospel. That is the good news of Jesus Christ.

We are in a season of reflecting on the journey of Jesus Christ, especially his forty days in the wilderness.

Like a grain of wheat preparing to fall into the ground, Jesus was preparing for his ministry, his death through prayer and fasting.

But he was not only thinking about the people of Israel at that time.

He was also thinking about us—people who would live many years later.

Because Jesus is God, he is beyond time and place.

Even when he was in the wilderness and when he died on the cross, he was thinking about those who would believe in him in the future.

And now you and me, we are his fruit.
