Judges 2:10 "And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers.

And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.”

그 세대의 사람도 다 그 조상들에게로 돌아갔고 그 후에 일어난 다른 세대는 여호와를 알지 못하여

여호와께서 이스라엘을 위하여 행하신 일도 알지 못하였더라

What had happened to them? Didn’t their parents and grandparents tell them the stories?

How did the stories of what God had done fail to get passed down to the next generation?

As you read through the Book of Judges, here are two things I want you to reflect on.

Teaching #1 The Cycle in the Book of Judges

As you read the Book of Judges, you can see a repeated cycle.

The people of Israel forgot God.

Even though God was angry with them, he did not give up on his people.

He raised up foreign nations to discipline them.

Israel cried out to God in their suffering.

God raised up a judge and delivered them from their powerful enemies.

The people of Israel lived in peace again.

And then, they forgot God once again.

In that repeated cycle, you can see how God used unexpected people as judges -

people who were abandoned, overlooked, not chosen, not smart enough, not powerful enough, and not faithful enough -

to deliver His people from disaster.

Teaching #2 God’s Reckless Love in the Book of Judges

As we read through the Book of Judges this month, I want you to think with me about God’s reckless love -

how he never gives up on his people, even when they keep turning away from him.

That’s what reckless love means.

When you see your friends or even your family members doing something wrong,

you might forgive them once, maybe twice, three times, or even four times.

But if they keep doing the same thing over and over again, you would probably want to cut ties with them for sure.

But God, even though he is angry and grieved, he never cut ties with us.
