As we wrap up our VBS (Vacation Bible School), let's remember the four symbols we have learned about once again.

—They tell the story of God—

how deeply he loves us, how we rejected and disobeyed him, our heavenly Father,

and how, because of his great love, he did not leave us in our sin.

Instead, he sent his one and only Son to bridge the great chasm between us and redeem us.

Now, he invites us to respond.

This is the Good News. “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

As we saw in today's story, Jesus always comes to us first. He seeks us before we seek him.

And even when we think of him as our guest, we must remember that he is not the guest—he is the host.

He wants to enter into conversation with us, search our hearts, teach us, and lead us.

My prayer is that each one of us will welcome Jesus as the host of our lives.

May our eyes be opened to recognize him, our hearts burn within us as we hear his Word,

and our feet be ready to go wherever he sends us. Amen.
